Data Transfer

Data
Transfer:

We prefer you to e-mail us the 3D wire-frame (or model) as an attachment to: groupmfg@pacbell.net If you are sending multiple files you can "zip" them to save download time and space requirements. (We have received files over 8 Megs in size, however you may have size restrictions on your end). We can also pull files off an FTP site or BBS if you have one. You can also send them on a floppy disk. If your location is somewhat close to us, we would like the drawings sent via driver or mail (snail mail), however, if that is a problem, you can also attach them to the e-mail and we can print them out ourselves (providing they are in Autocad-14 or earlier, or Cadkey 97 or earlier formats).

Preferred
Modeling:

In order to do the fastest unfolding, models need to be drawn "correctly". Bends need bend relief, and bend relief must be at least a material thickness plus a bend radius. (We can actually form parts, .060 or less, with no relief, however the Un-Folder has a problem with a line intersecting in the middle of a bend). In addition, we would prefer countersinks and hardware to be on a separate layer so we can remove them for the unfolding (after eliminating the hardware and/or countersink layer, there should be a through hole of the correct size). Eliminating them if they are not on a separate layer can be quite cumbersome.

Optional
Molding:

We can also unfold parts with no radius and/or no thickness, however, we again need relief's, and they need to be at least one material + the bend radius. In addition, all lines must be broken at intersections. On parts with no thickness, you will need to provide us with an isometric view showing the side on which to add the material

Included
Drawings:

When doing "Unfold-manufacturing" we only need a drawing with bending information, countersink specs, and hardware specs (one isometric view is fine in most cases). We can extract the bending info and countersink info off the model, but it will cost us more time than if you provide it

File
Types:

For Unfolding, Autocad-12 (or earlier) 3D wire-frame "Igs" files work the best. Cadkey 7 (or earlier) "Cdl" and Autocad-12 (or earlier) "Dxf" files also work, however, we have seen less problems with the "Igs" files. We can import your solids into Autocad or Cadkey, explode them, remove any duplicate lines, and send them to the Un-Folder, but that can be quite time-consuming. We can also convert Autocad-13 and 14 or Cadkey-97 files ourselves, if you don't have that option. For blueprint purposes, we can load and plot "Dwg", "Dxf", or "Cdl" files.
